China parliament passes Hong Kong national security law: Cable TV

China’s parliament has passed national security legislation for Hong Kong, according to a cable TV report citing unnamed sources.

The South China Morning post reported that the law is set to include “a maximum penalty of life in jail, contrary to earlier indications of a 10-year limit.”

The law is expected to come into force on July 1, the Post said.
